Labrador – world’s most popular dog breed
The Labrador Retriever is the world’s most popular dog breed. The American Kennel Club recognizes 184 different dog breeds, and has named the Labrador as the most popular of all. In Australia, the Lab is also the most popular according to Dogs NSW and the Australian National Kennel Council.
Ask any Lab owner and they will all concur that once a Lab owner, always a Lab owner! They are the most popular for many reasons, most of all they are just so adorable!
As puppies they are so incredibly cute, but also mischievous which adds to their charm. They will chew things, run off with things, tear clothes apart and despite all this one look at their face and your heart melts; you just can’t stay mad at him/her despite the damage done!
Labs are one of the most trainable dogs you could have and they will love you like no other! And, no other dog can match a Lab’s playfulness-they are always up for a good game. These dogs are very family oriented and great with children (even babies).
Originally bred to hunt small downed waterfowl, they also lead the blind, act as hearing dogs and do police and military work.
Other positive attributes of this breed include:
-low maintenance (except daily brushing)
-average life expectancy of 12 years
-they don’t bark much
-incredibly friendly and loyal
-they socialize well with other dogs
So, when considering what breed to get, be sure to have a good look at this wonderful breed- you will not regret it!
